Its raining outside and you are all snuggled up inside. How wonderful would it be to admire the drizzle sitting by your window with a cup of hot masala tea and plate of masala vadai? Dream!
Well here goes the recipe and it taste delicious even without the rain ;)
Makes 12 - 15
Channa Dhal - 2 cups
Red Chilli - 5
Cinnamon Stick - 2
Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
Cilantro - few, finely chopped
Curry leaves - few, finely chopped
Green Chilli - 3, finely chopped
Onion - 1/2 , finely chopped
Salt - to taste
Oil - for deep frying
How to make?
Soak the channa dhal for minimum 4 hours.
First grind the cinnamon sticks, red chilli, and 1 tsp of cumin seeds into a powder. Then slowly add the drained out channa dhal little by little and grind into a coarse paste without adding any water.
Keep a handful of channa dhal without grinding to be added as whole to the batter to increase the crispiness.
Add the chopped cilantro, green chilli, curry leaves, onion. Add salt as required and mix well.
The mixture should be a thick batter, do not add any water.
Heat up the oil and once hot, take small balls of the batter, flatten it between your palms and gently drop in the oil.
Deep fry till golden brown and remove from the oil.
